The Design Department of the Faculty of Architecture at Vilnius Tech, marking its tenth anniversary in 2023, presents an exhibition of student works from the Industrial Design study programme. It also gives an insight into the academic processes of the Department. The Industrial Design study programme is an interdisciplinary first and second cycle study programme integrating knowledge and competences in the humanities, applied arts, technology and social sciences. Design as a branch of applied art and science, including artistic, aesthetic, engineering design of various products, formation of interior or exterior environment, design of household objects using innovative methods of scientific analysis, teaching and artistic and technical design.
This study programme trains engineers-designers of industrial products, specialists who, based on the idea that the object of the built environment must be useful, functional and aesthetically valuable, are able to design industrial objects of exceptional artistic value and appearance for their intended purpose. By combining the principles of functionality and aesthetic appeal, the future specialisers aim to ensure the integration of the industrial products they have developed into both the national and the global marketplace.
Innovative teaching methods and modern design thinking tools are used to orient students to work in teams. New methods of problem-based learning and continuous complex design are used to encourage not only the acquisition of fundamental scientific knowledge, but also the dissemination of the university’s intellectual knowledge to the general public.
